Getting into doing headshots

A couple of years ago I started doing headshots, here and there. This past year, the business really started picking up – and I really like it. It’s clean, straightforward, and I really enjoy doing it. It’s so different than working with teeny kids and babies – and it’s nice to hang with adults from time to time! Thank you to Jennifer (beautiful woman below) who referred me to do the headshots for her company (after meeting me from doing her kids’ preschool photos), what a nice group of people ! I just showing a few of the shots, but I really like the different looks we had going. Casual but clean and approachable.

It happened! I got the call! I was so excited. I love Tiny Prints. I don’t know a children’s photographer who doesn’t love Tiny Prints. So when the creative director called me and told me she was referred to me, and wanted to have me do a mini session for their 2011 Holiday Season marketing materials, of course I said yes! I had a blast. It was a quick day, but it was so fun. And a couple months later, there it was. This photo you see below was in a full page ad in Martha Stewart. Yay!

Still to this day, I love showing up on a family’s doorstep, wondering what the next 1-2 hours will bring me…..and as has happened so many times before, when the door opened and I said hello, I couldn’t wait to get started! Are you kidding? This baby….oh my. I just love getting to come in, check out the rooms, see the light, see the kitchen, see the backyard, see the living room….and see that baby. She was beyond cute. We got to go to all the fun spaces. The kitchen for a bit, the back garden for a bit, the living room, and ending on the back room sofa – and all the while smiles and curiosity. This is why I started photographing babies, to show the realness of them, and so one day, when they are grown, and their parents reflect, these are the photos they will come back to. A moment in their life.

Erica Scheidt – Author – Book “Uses for Boys” out in 2013!

Last year I got an email from this amazing woman, she had just finished a book, it would be coming out in the near future, and would I be interested in taking her author photos? After taking a quick glance at her bio, and reading a little preview of the book, called Uses for Boys (St. Martin’s Press, out in 2013), I knew I wanted to meet her. The books is for teens, but seriously, it’s REAL. My first reaction was “Where were you when I was in high school!!!???”.

Erica is great, she’s fun, she’s comfortable, and it was a really fun couple of hours that I got to spend with her.

Look for her book in a bookstore next year!

Last year I was so lucky to run into and meet Chris, from All Good Living Kids. How lucky I was on that day! We started chatting (we were in a kids clothing store) and the stars lined up, and soon enough he called and we did some photos together! Looks like they just revamped their website – and it looks GREAT! Their clothes are adorable, they do great feel-good projects, and they’re really nice people to boot. New Orleans + and explanation

A couple of weeks ago I followed my husband out to New Orleans, he had a work conference. Lucky for me, my dear friend Ashley’s father lives out there, so she came out too and we did some photo days! It’s been awhile, way way too long, since I’ve just gone out in the world and took photos. I was a little timid, but I’m getting my sea legs back.

My explanation for my lack of blog posting…since October. Record portrait taking year = no time to post on my blog! Thank you to all my clients in 2012 (and before and after that too!), for allowing me into your families, and trusting me with your precious family memories. I look forward to working with you more! In the meantime, here are some shots form New Orleans – and just outside of town too.

For the past three years I have been LUCKY enough to photograph these three girls. They are amazing, and fun, and their parents are equally as wonderful. The girls just run with the creative process, even art directing a little bit, which I love. It’s basically just a really fun couple of hours.

We were obviously just killing a roll of film for those few minutes.

My New Babies

I love them.

2 months + 9 days old.

16 years ago our beloved (passed 1.5 yrs ago) Dookie (cat) was born and then adopted by my husband and I from the San Francisco SPCA. On Sunday I couldn’t believe our LUCK when we found these sisters there. The tabby looks so much like Dookie, it’s crazy, but just enough not to be her own kitty. And the calico is just……sick cute.

We are all in kitten bliss at our house.
